Ceramic Bearing Upgrade

Mad Fiber Ceramic System

Ceramic Bearing System

Our ceramic upgrade depends upon the World's finest bearings in the four critical, positions in the hubs. The front wheel carries two 6802 bearings, and we replace both with ceramic. In the rear, we replace two load supporting bearings in the hub shell, a big inboard 6902 and a left outside 6802. As in the front hub, these carry the weight of the rider and bike.

The freehub bearings are left in steel since they never see primary rider load. When coasting, those races support only the weight of the cassette. When pedaling, the freehub is locked to the hub and its bearings see no vehicle weight.

HOW ABOUT YOU?

Ceramic bearings are for you if you live for competition and take every opportunity to increase your speed and endurance. They're also a good choice if you are budget minded. Over time, their longer life makes them the economical choice.

Interestingly, for normal paced riding (compared to racing), rolling resistance is more important. At elite racing speeds approaching 50kph, wind resistance is much greater than rolling friction. But at speeds below 30kph, rolling friction is a larger percentage of the work load, since wind resistance is less. At training and touring speeds, ceramic bearings pay the largest relative dividends.
