Brake Pads

Braking on carbon fiber rims is very different from braking on metal rims, as the materials absorb heat at different rates, and place different demands on brake pads. Because of this, Mad Fiber provides proprietary pads and insists on their exclusive use. (This is not to say that other carbon specific pads might not perform well - simply it means that we cannot guarantee their performance as we do not have control over their specification, design or quality control processes).

Our brake pad compound was originally developed for racing motorcycle brakes and has very high thermal stability and heat absorption. It's a proprietary mixture of cork and high temperature (600ºF) rubber. Together, they offer excellent friction coefficient, heat resistance, and wet weather performance.

Mad Fiber pads also work well on aluminum rims, enabling riders to easily swap wheels. A word of caution in this regard: Aluminum rims shed small amounts of material which can be caught in the brake pads - when swapping wheels back to carbon rims, examine the pad surface and pick out any obvious pieces of metal to avoid damaging your wheels' brake surfaces.

Please contact Mad Fiber with any technical questions.
